Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)
Otolaryngology

What is an ENT?

An ENT or Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, also known as an Otolaryngologist, is the surgeon that treats diseases of the head and neck.  ENTs train for five years as surgeons of the head and neck region and are experts in tumors and cancers of this region as well.

Seeing an ENT in Ontario requires a referral from your family doctor. Access our referral form here.

Due to many possible overlapping etiologies in these regions and the interconnected nature of these areas, all of these areas are typically assessed together during your visit. ENTs possess unique equipment such as fibre-optic cameras that magnify areas that are normally difficult to examine. Unique hearing and balance testing also occur under the supervision of the physician to create a comprehensive picture of the causes and treatment options for a condition.

For those patients that require small in-office procedures, ENTs have the microscopes to perform small precise procedures in the clinic.  For those that need to have larger procedures, these will occur in the hospital with the patient asleep.

Solutions that are commonly performed in the United States in private ENT surgicenters have been brought to the Airway Clinic.
